Thriller Title Sequences

Hostage Title Sequence

The titles in this opening sequence are all displayed on objects or the surrounding locations eg stairs, walls and buildings. This involves the audience with them searching for the titles like the police would search for the hostage. The same font is used for all the titles which is big, think and bold. The name Hostage gives clues to the audience of what the film is about. The music is deep drums which mimics the pattern of a heartbeat which adds suspense. At the start of the title, the deep drums also sound like a ticking clock, showing that there is a race against time. The violins also add to the fast pace of the title again adding fear and suspense. There are helicopter and police background noises, with indicate that it is a crime thriller. The title Hostage is in Red which connotes danger and death which may be featured in the film.

Se7en Title Sequence

In this title opening, the titles start 4 minutes into the film, unlike other films where it starts right at the beginning or during the opening. The fonts look handwritten which is more personal as if the character has a vendetta against someone, as it looks like they are taking note. The flashing imagery of ordinary objects for example, notebooks, photography films and sewing needles makes the images look spooky and stand out. Also, the music accompanied by this is high pitched and sounds screechy like a scream. There is also at ticking clock which could represent a race against time.
