Evaluation question 6

6. What have you learnt about the technologies from the process of constructing your product?

- Blog -> It is a useful way of showing other people how we produced our thriller opening and it also helped us to keep organised.

- Camera equipment -> By using the Camera we have learnt that we need to get multiple shots in order to have a good range when it comes to editing. We also learnt how to do a dolly zoom using just the camera (explain). By using the Tripod we learnt that it keeps our footage steady which is essential for getting a good mark.

- Final Cut -> We have learnt how to add filters to create different effects, transitions between shots e.g. fade in fade out, adding an effect to the titles e.g. making them shake. One problem was that after adding an effect onto the video we then had to render it all which sometimes took along time e.g. 10 mins.

- Garageband -> We leant how to layer sounds over each other to make it sound more realistic also how to cut the sound down to make it shorter. One problem is that when we moved the sound across the fades wouldn't move with them, solved by taking fade out then move sounds and then adding the fades back in.

Evaluation question 5

5. How did you attract/address your audience?

- Use of sound -> creates tension and suspense which shows it is aimed at a older audience.
- Use of video filters -> makes it seam like something is wrong/not normal, which gives a thriller aspect to it because you can see that something is going to but then you don't actually see it.
- Long tracking shots -> Makes audience want to carry on watching it to find out what happens.
- Narrative -> 3 Second gap after he falls over, creates lots of suspense which grabs the audiences attention even more and will make them want to carry on watching the film to see if anything happens to the character.
- introduction to character -> long, learn about him, see him as innocent, then he is captured so the audience want to know what happens to him because they feel sorry for him.
- Film opening -> Ask lots of questions e.g. Does he survive?, why is it blurry?, Will the villain kill again?

Question 3

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Example of film institutions similar to our plot.

Silence of the Lambs Production Companies

Se7en Production Companies

Also done: Friday the 13th: Part 2 , Friday the 13th, The Number 23, The Sick House, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, The Butterfly Effect 2, Final Destination 3, Running Scared, Hostage, Final Destination 2, Final Destination, A Nightmare on Elm Street

Has opportunities for franchises like the saw films

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Age (15 plus) due to the violence
represents males - Our villain and victim are both males around the same age (20's), both characters represent the two social groups in different ways, the villain being male is a typical stereotype, but the victim being male is less conventional as males are usually seen as the hero. Because of the types of characters we've represented, it'll probably appeal to an audience of a similar social group because of the fact that they can imagine themselves in that situation.

evaluation question 7

7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to your final product?

- We leant how to make it look more professional and we focused more on the continuity e.g. Match on action and point of view.
- Making shots more detailed e.g. when phone fell out of pocket we had lots of shots put together to show this action happening, this makes it more interesting to watch.
- Concentrated on sound - we leant not to use the original sound from our footage (which we did do in our prelim) abut to add sounds from itunes or garageband.
- Our camera work was much more adventurous in our final thriller opening than in our prelim because we used lots more shots and angles.
- Has footage improved since prelim? yes, our match on action
